Meeting with Palestinian HAMAS' Senior Leaders

On July 4th, 2021, a delegation from Geneva Council for International Affairs and Development (GCIAD) met in Istanbul with Palestinian HAMAS' senior leaders and discussed the current situation in Palestine and the efforts of international community to support justice and the rule of law in Palestine.
During the meeting, GCIAD President Dr. Nurhayati Ali Assegaf highlighted the concern about the continued Israel military attack which suffering of Gaza’s people, especially woman and childrens and stressed the need to boost the international aid for Palestine and urge the Israeli authorities to end their illegal siege of Gaza and to fully cooperate with International Criminal Court (ICC) and complied to international law. She also mentioned the important of GCIAD to continue mainstreaming the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the ultimate goal “leave no one behind “ and support Palestinian government and all stakeholders to meet the UN Goals by 2030.
Mr Ismail Haniya , the HAMAS leader, highlighted the reasons of recent escalation that started with violent measures in the city El Quds/ Jerusalem by way of incursions at the compound, attacks against innocent people and forced expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in favor of Jewish expansion in Palestinian land. He called for legal actions and measures against the perpetrators of such crimes and to help Palestinians in the construction of a process that would lead to Palestinian independence. Mr. Ismail Haniya called upon the international community to work on Goldstone Report recommendations and apply international procedures on the committed crimes .
Furthermore, the participants pointed to the limited powers of international institutions as the international community has failed to offer the Palestinians an effective and adequate protection from clear and blatant violations of their fundamental rights to govern their citizen to have Palestinian identity as one Nation, including rights to life, peace and free Palestinian from the Israeli occupying power.
Anouar Gharbi, GCIAD Secretary-General, explained that GCIAD is working with all parties in order to set peace and stability in the region and in favour of a broad and non-discriminatory inter-Palestinian dialogue. Moreover, GCIAD is working to join a EU delegation of parliamentarians and human rights NGOs from EU Countries to visit Gaza and meet with local NGOs, political leaders and United Nations representatives.
